Is It Just Me Or......Week 9!

Is it just me or....are these the GREATEST SHOES EVER??? Don't you just want to slap a pair on your feet and see how far you get? Well don't you? I totally think I could AT LEAST make it 5 or 6 feet across the room. Cuz I'm just that gifted. (And btw....what the hell was this guy thinking?)

Is it just me or....is this a really clever cat toy? Might just be that I've recently become enamored with all things morbidly knit. Cuz they're cool. Really, really cool.

Is it just me or....does this ornament scream, "LET'S SEE HOW FAST WE CAN GIVE LITTLE JOHNNY NIGHTMARES?" I mean, WTF? Why is the man in the red dress trying to stuff a perfectly good kid into a sack?

Is it just me or...is the commercial for ABILIFY exceptionally heavy on the negative side effects? I know drug companies are required to tell you what might happen if you take their medication. But if MOST of the commercial is about the BAD SHIT THAT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU and less about the GOOD STUFF, then why the hell would you willingly consume the product???

Now it's YOUR turn....

So Glad This Lost Boy Found Us

Remember when I posted this pic?

This adorable pic of this adorable little lady??

So many of you expressed an interest in her father. And why wouldn't you? Machar is an amazing man, one with a remarkable story.

That's Machar (or Mac as we call him) on the left and a photo he took of his mother during his first trip back to Sudan in 2004. Mac works as a patient care assistant at Brigham and Women's Hospital, which is how he and my father connected. Mac befriended my dad as he waited over 3 months for a new heart.

I found a great article about Mac (now a proud US citizen) in the Brigham and Women's newsletter. The following info came from this article:

"Mac is from Sudan, where he lived until civil war and horrific genocide ravaged the country. He is one of Sudan’s Lost Boys, the term aid organizations use for the group of courageous refugees who survived.

Mac was forced to leave Sudan in 1987 at the age of 7 or 8.

In 1987, an attack on his village of Kolnyang separated Mac from his family. He hid with other children until it was over. Everything was destroyed. He prayed for his family but did not find them. He walked with other surviving children and a few adults 300 miles to a refugee camp in Ethiopia.

They experienced terrible hardships on the journey, encountering wild animals like lions and hyenas, and a severe lack of food.

Not everyone survived, but in December of 1987, Mac and others arrived at the camp. They stayed two years, fighting off disease and enduring hunger. A civil war in Ethiopia forced them to flee to Pochalla, a town on the border of Ethiopia and Sudan. When Pochalla was bombed by the Sudanese government, Mac and the refugees walked for four months to Kenya, where they lived for nine years until 2000. Then, the U.S. government brought 3,600 Lost Boys to the U.S, and Catholic Charities placed Mac and others in the Boston area.

After working briefly in a nursing home and a rehabilitation center, Mac took a patient care assistant prep course and was hired by B&W. It was through the support of his coworkers that Mac found the courage to return to Sudan in 2004 to find his family, a family he had not seen in 17 years, a family he did not know if they were alive.

Mac returned to his homeland in 2004 and found his parents and sister. It was a tearful and joyful reunion. His parents didn’t know if he had survived, and they were shocked and overjoyed to see him."

Amazing, isn't it?

Kind of makes EVERY LITTLE ISSUE we currently have seem just that....little.

I wish each of you could have the chance to meet Mac. To sit and talk with Mac. He is truly one of the most fascinating people I have ever met. He has a quiet, gentle presence about him. And a beautiful way with words. His accent is heavy but simply makes you focus all that more intently to grasp the meaning behind his words. He's a big hugger (I love that!) and at 7 feet tall, that makes him the greatest hugger I know!

His wife, a very new arrival to the US, is a beautiful woman. Quiet and somewhat reserved but with a smile that beams.

No wonder the little princess in the pic above has such an expressive face...she comes by it naturally!

Now if I could just convince her parents to give her to me!! :)

Splitting Hairs Would Be Preferable

I've said it here before but it needs saying again. Some things I just don't get.

No matter how hard someone might TRY to explain it, the concept eludes me.

Cuz some stuff is just plain unexplainable.

Like tongue splitting.

Cuz tongue splitting seems just plain stupid.

Yes, I know some people think it's cool. And yes, I know some people think it enhances their erotic experiences. And yes, yes, yes, I even know that some people claim there is a spiritual benefit to dividing their tongue. But I'm not buyin' it.

Cuz there ain't nothin' cool about this.

And nothin' erotic about that.

And unless spirituality is somehow connected to blood loss

and infection,

I AIN'T BUYIN' IT!!!!

Christmas in Pictures...(and a few words)

Sarah and mommy reading the book we gave her.

My wiener can rock any look!

Disco dachshund. Or...Let's get physical!

Glow sticks can be fun!

It's not Xmas unless my kids wrestle.

My Dad and his binky. When my kids were young, they called his cigar a binky.

Kind of dark, but a good pic of Connor. (and my boots!)

My Dad did NOT want his pic taken anymore.

I love this little girl.

She loves her new baby. How sweet is this?

Nothing says Xmas like a plastic gun!

Or a package full of plastic swords!!

These are two spoiled grand wieners. Their Poppa loves them.

My CJ...what a handsome wiener you have.

Be still my heart.

Happiness is...

I begged John to let me keep her. He didn't seem keen on the idea. Neither did her parents. RUDE!!!

She is seriously a beautiful child. I really NEED her! :)
Qway is the daughter of a very special friend of my father. Her daddy, Machar (we call him Mac) is from Sudan. Mac works at Brigham and Women's Hospital and was one of the orderlies that assisted my Dad during the 98 days he waited for a new heart. They became fast friends. Mac is one of the Lost Boys of Sudan who walked 10,000 miles out of Sudan in order to be safe. His story is amazing. I am humbled in his presence.

Qway melted my heart. I was so happy to meet her for the first time on Xmas day.

My dad gave Qway that stuffed frog. She seemed to like it a lot! Mac calls my dad Father. Their relationship truly is one that my father treasures.

My stepfather Paul was trying to encourage Sarah to eat by holding this glowing snowman up to his mouth and talking through him. I call this pic THE MOMENT PAUL LOST HIS MIND.

This smile gets me every time.

My mommy and step daddy. :)

My step bros, Nick and Greg, and their adorable grandmother, Mary. They are all awesome people.

Connor decked out in all his new winter duds. Burton snow pants and DC snow jacket. Chauncey was giving the pants the sniff test.

Powerful Stuff

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
~~~
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.
~~~
The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,
Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
~~~
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
~~~
"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.
~~~
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
~~~
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at Pearl on a day in December,
"Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
~~~
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
~~~
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother.
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."
~~~
"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
~~~
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

Is It Just Me Or......Week 8!!

Is it just me or....are wieners that sleep like this BEYOND amazing? And yes, Fenway WAS sleeping. Chauncey was too, but he opened his eyes EXACTLY when I took the pic. The best part? They BOTH wanted to lounge on John's outstretched legs but couldn't exactly fit side by side. So they went for a "stackable wiener" approach. Pretty clever, huh?

Is it just me or...does everyone lose one blog follower each time they write a MORBID MONDAY post? Oh wait, y'all don't write Morbid Monday posts, do you? So it's just me. Hmmm.

Is it just me or...is this the cutest damn wiener ornament ever?? I love it. I'd love it even if it DIDN'T arrive totally out of the blue in the mail...from Sue over at As Cape Cod Turns. Yep, I would have loved it anyway. But because it came from Sue, someone I happen to REALLY, REALLY like, I ADORE IT!!!!!! And it's mine. All mine.

Is it just me or....are decorative throw pillows RIDICULOUSLY expensive? Well, aren't they? And for what reason? They just SIT there. They BARELY do anything. So what gives? Why are these "almost exclusively for decoration" pillows so damn costly? (Don't ask me what we just spent on 4 of these little gems. I DON'T want to think about it.)

Is it just me or...does anyone else get a little weepy when they hear Auld Lang Syne? Don't know why but I do. Maybe it makes me nostalgic for days gone by. Or maybe it makes me hopeful for what the next year holds. Or maybe I'm just a pansy ass.

Now it's YOUR turn....
